WSU-CHP Leadership Academy

The College of Health Professions promotes and enhances personal and professional growth as a means to advance the vision and mission of the college and university. Toward this end, the College of Health Professions has established the CHP Leadership Academy, a year-long program designed to foster the development of future leaders in the college. The long-term vision of the Academy is that the College of Health Professions be actively involved in providing leadership to the healthcare community in Wichita and the surrounding region.

Program Goals:

The program seeks to:

  • provide motivated CHP faculty and staff with the opportunity to develop leadership skills in a structured and challenging environment
  • foster a culture of collegiality, collaboration and leadership among CHP faculty and staff
  • promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and collaboration to advance college and university goals for ongoing excellence
  • recognize and reward college faculty and staff who work to advance the goals and strategic vision of CHP

Academy Leadership:

In April 2007, Professor Rosalind Scudder was appointed by the dean as founding director of the CHP Leadership Academy. Professor Scudder is well-qualified with a background in both educational leadership and leadership development. Professor Scudder served as the founding director of WSU’s Center for Teaching and Research Excellence. Dr. Scudder is a professor in the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

The Academy has named six Senior Fellows, chosen from experienced, motivated and recognized leaders within the college and from the community, who will serve as mentors for Academy Fellows. Senior Fellows will also assist the Academy Director in development and operations of the Academy. In addition, various faculty and members of the community will assist with this fellowship program.

Academy Fellows:

Academy Fellows will be selected through a nomination and selection process. Once selected, Academy Fellows will participate in activities, designated by the Academy Director, that are designed to expose participants to a variety of learning and mentoring opportunities. All fellows will participate in regularly scheduled mentoring meetings, academy fellow meetings, and an academic year-long leadership seminar. The year-long fellowship will result in completion and presentation a project related to leadership development or quality improvement. Upon completion of the Fellowship, individuals will be eligible to serve as Senior Fellows (leadership mentors) for future Academy Fellows.
