Getting Credit for Your Job


If you are currently working in a job related to your major, you may be eligible to receive academic credit, if you meet the following qualifications:Kelsey Lanzrath

  • Co-op and internship students must have an assigned supervisor, who provides orientation, training and professional guidance. The supervisor must have more knowledge in the field than the student.
  • While some co-op and internship placements require a degree of clerical or repetitive work, no more than 20 percent of a student's time at work must be spent on clerical or repetitive duties, including filing, answering the phone or data entry.
  • Co-op and internship assignments must require students to develop a variety of competencies in their professional field and should allow students to contribute to the productivity of the organization.
  • Co-op and internship students must have a designated work area.
  • Co-op and internship students must have the opportunity to observe and work with professionals, such as attending meetings with staff or clients.
  • Co-op and internship placements must have clear job descriptions which specifically outline a student's duties and his or her necessary qualifications, including development of new skills and increasing responsibility.JPEG Image

If you met the requirements:

  1. Visit with your academic advisor about your credit hour and enrollment needs
  2. Schedule an appointment with your cooperative education coordinator
  3. At the appointment with your coordinator bring:
    • Your job description
    • Proof of employment
    • Your current transcript
