How to Apply:  Three Parts

Part 1:  Click to Apply online for acceptance into Wichita State’s Graduate School

  1. Fill out an online form which asks standard biographical facts and your academic history.  (On Line 12, write G13E, the code for the MFA degree in creative writing.)
  2. Pay a $50 application fee ($65 for non-U.S. residents), payable to WSU Graduate School
  3. Have official transcripts of all the colleges and universities you attended mailed to:
    Graduate School
    Wichita State University
    1845 Fairmount
    Wichita, KS 67260-0004

Part 2:  Apply by mail for acceptance into the English Department’s MFA Program

  1. Choose your genre:  fiction or poetry.
  2. Choose a sample of original creative writing in your genre. 
    •For fiction, select about 20 pages. Use 12 point type, one-inch margins, double-spaced, and printed on one side.
    •For poetry, select four to six poems. 
  3.  Mail your MFA sample manuscript to:

Part 3:  (Optional).  Apply by mail to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant

  1. Click to download the application to be a GTA
  2.  Select a sample of your original expository prose.  You may send either:
      i. an academic paper of five or more double-spaced pages (preferably one that has been graded) or
      ii. An essay of three to five double-spaced pages which might include the following:  why you would be an effective teacher; why it is important for a person today, in the era of cell phones and email, to write effectively, and how teaching expository writing might benefit you as a creative or scholarly writer.
  3. Arrange to have three (3) letters of recommendation mailed.  Do NOT mail these letters to us yourself.  Either have your recommender mail them to us or use a service such as Interfolio to mail them to us.
  4. ALL MATERIALS for the GTA application (application, expository writing sample, and three (3) recommendations should be mailed to:
