Admission Requirements

Admission to the master's program in speech-language pathology is made on a competitive basis. For average GPA, test scores, completion rates, and employment rates for students accepted into and graduating from our program, see CSDCAS profile (MA-SLP) and Program Effectiveness.

All applicants must have a four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework. Please contact the WSU Graduate School if you have questions about whether your transcript is acceptable. Scores from either the Graduate Record Examination (www.gre.org) or Miller Analogies Test (www.milleranalogies.com) are also required. Institution codes for WSU are 6884 (GRE) and 2090 (MAT). Exams must be taken within the last 5 years.

Applicants with a degree NOT in CSD will need to satisfactorily complete leveling prerequisite coursework (see MA Curriculum). With the exception of a few courses taken during the graduate program, all prerequisites must be completed prior to or during the application process. A grade below C in a prerequisite course is not acceptable and should be repeated.

Applicants whose native language is not English must submit official scores for either the TOEFL or the Academic Module of the IELTS examination with their application. Scores from the speaking portion of the internet-based TOEFL (IBT) or the SPEAK test are also required. Test information is available at www.ets.org and the institution code for WSU is 6884. Exams must be taken within the last two (2) years. The minimum acceptable scores for each test are: TOEFL -- 79 internet-based or 550 paper-based; IELTS -- overall band score of 6.5; TOEFL speaking component -- 23; and SPEAK -- 50.
