ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Wichita State University (WSU) provides an academic and clinical professional education for students whose primary goal is to serve children and adults who have impairments of communication.
Originating at the University in 1934, this program is proud of its history as one of the oldest and most distinguished preparatory programs in the United States, as well as its tradition of preparing qualified and professionally active speech-language pathologists and audiologists in the field of communication sciences and disorders.
Mission Statement
To prepare qualified speech-language pathologists and audiologists as scholars/practitioners who are professionally competent to practice in educational and medical settings on behalf of children and adults who have disorders of communication and related difficulties.
Accreditation
The Master of Arts (MA) degree programs in speech-language pathology and audiology in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Wichita State University have been accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association since 1977. In 2006, the MA program in audiology was phased-out due to an increase in national credentialing standards.
The MA program in speech-language pathology and the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program are accredited through May 31, 2017.
Program Recognition
According to the America's Best Graduate Schools 2009 index published by US News and World Report, the graduate program in speech-language pathology at Wichita State University is ranked 30th out of approximately 250 programs nationwide.
