Assistant Professor (Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering)

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses,
  • Secure and conduct externally funded research,
  • Publish scholarly work,
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate (including Ph.D. level) students
  • Develop industry-based research 

Minimum Education (Required): 

  • Ph.D. in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field 

Minimum Experience (Required):

  • Expertise in manufacturing processes, background in one or more areas in mechanics, robotics, material science, composites, and nano-technology

Tenure track faculty are required to teach, generate a good journal publication record, and to participate in service activities. Additionally, the faculty member is expected to advise undergraduate students, mentor and seek external funding for graduate students, to develop research expertise, and to grow academic and research infrastructure (e.g., labs, equipment, capabilities, etc.) 
Minimum Education (Required):

  • Must hold a doctorate in aerospace engineering or a strongly related engineering discipline
  • Must have at least one degree in aerospace engineering or have notable aerospace industry/research lab experience 

Minimum Experience (Required):

  • A demonstrated ability to teach, conduct research, publish and communicate effectively
  • Applicants should clearly state their status or ability to work in the US
  • Appropriate background and experiences consistent with starting at the Assistant Professor level
  • Appropriate experience in the area of aerospace structures 

Preferred Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering

Unclassified Positions


Research Scientist (Center for Innovation and Enterprise Engagement)

Responsible for supporting and carrying out Laboratory activities to ensure satisfactory completion of research projects, including conducting research and preparing reports.  Master’s Degree in Materials Engineering & Science, CS or related field.  Ability with moderately complex programming in Visual C++ and Visual Basic.  Knowledge of friction stir welding.  Strong proficiency with signal processing and analysis.  For position description and application instructions at  http://jobs.wichita.edu.  Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check as required by the Board of Regents policy.  Wichita State University is AA/EEO employer.

 

Educational Assessment Specialist

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Associate Dean to create a culture of assessment and quality improvement.
  • Work with faculty and department chairs to establish/refine course level educational objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and instruction in the design and implementation of closed-loop assessment activities related to student learning and teaching effectiveness.
  • Provide support for faculty in data collection, interpretation and use of assessment findings.
  • Establish and maintain a computerized system for collection and distribution of assessment data.
  • Assist the college and department chairs in writing accreditation self-studies.
  • Develop assessment for College activities (including recruiting and retention).
  • Compile, analyze, summarize, and report on learning assessment results.
  • Maintain records and files for the purpose of documenting assessment activities.
  • Engage in professional development to stay abreast of assessment theories, pedagogical, and technological developments, and advise college on new directions.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Dean.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in area relating to:  outcomes assessment, program assessment, learning assessment, teaching, learning theory, or higher education accreditation.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Three years of professional work experience relating to assessment
  • One year experience working in higher education

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of curricular design, learning outcomes and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to conduct, interpret and report on statistical analyses
  • Ability to design and implement rubrics
  • Ability to conduct and analyze computerized surveys

Engineering Educator (Electrical Engineering) 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduate electrical engineering courses and labs; expected teaching load is 3-4 classes per semester.
  • Leadership in the development of new courses, labs, and the EE curriculum.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Service to the department, college and university. 

Minimum Education (Required):

  • Bachelor's and Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related area 

Preferred Experience:

  • Engineering experience in industry
  • Demonstrated effective teaching 

Required licenses, certificates and registrations:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Engineering Educator (Aerospace Engineering) 

Summary of Responsibilities:
Engineering Educator faculty are required to teach assigned AE courses, participate in department service activities and program assessment/accreditation efforts, and where appropriate support related laboratory or experiential student activities. Opportunities to teach new or upper-level courses, mentor students, and to participate in funded research projects in collaboration with other faculty also exist. 
Minimum Education (Required):

  • An MS degree in engineering or a strongly related discipline. 

Minimum Experience (Required):

  • Demonstrated ability to teach, communicate effectively and potential to contribute to college diversity 

Preferred Education:

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident with an undergraduate degree from a U.S. university in aerospace engineering 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience teaching in engineering or a strongly related program
