The Wichita State Art History program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art degree with an emphasis in Art History. The program offers emphases in Ancient, Renaissance, and Modern and Contemporary Art History with supplemental courses in Early Christian and Byzantine art, Decorative Art, Architrecture, and Asian and Latin American art histories. Through supportive courses for Graphic Design, Art Education, Studio Arts (all degrees in Art & Design require at least four Art History courses), all Art & Design students develop a fundamental knowledge of art within a cultural and historical framework, and a basic understanding of art terms, concepts, and theory relevant to all visual arts studies. Toward further experience of how art and design are incorporated into our lives, the Art History program offers immersive experiences through travel to domestic and international museums and locales such as Greece, Istanbul, Venice, Mexico City, Singapore, Sao Paolo, and others. WSU Art History students are world travelers!
Art History graduates often pursue graduate study. They become art critics, writers, curators and arts administrators in all forms of museums, not just art museums, and the writing and critical thinking Art History requires is prerequisite to all communications- and language-oriented disciplines and fields.
