IRS Tax Transcripts

The best way to verify income and to satisfy the IRS tax transcript requirement is by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool that is part of FAFSA on the Web at  www.fafsa.gov.

• This tool automatically transfers all tax information to the FAFSA
• Information directly transferred with this tool eliminates the need to obtain the transcript from the IRS

It takes up to two weeks for IRS income information to be available for the IRS Data Retrieval Tool for electronic IRS tax return filers, and up to eight weeks for paper IRS tax return filers. Instructions to Request IRS Tax Transcripts

If you are unable or choose not to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in FAFSA on the Web:

• Go to www.IRS.gov and select "Order a Return or Account Transcript" link in the Tools Section
• Call the IRS at 1-800-908-9946
• Visit your local IRS office.  The Wichita, KS IRS field office is located at 271 W. 3rd St, Wichita, KS 67202.

You will need your Social Security Number, date of birth, and the address on file with the IRS (normally this will be the address used when your 2011 IRS tax return was filed).
