GEEKS (GREAT EXPECTATIONS ENGINEERING KANSAS SCHOLARS)

What is GEEKS?

GEEKS is a FREE tutoring program provided by the College of Engineering to help undergraduate engineering students succeed as they pursue a degree in the field of engineering. Tutors are hired for the key freshmen and sophomore classes that are common to most engineering majors. Tutoring sessions are typically scheduled in 1.5 hour blocks and are held in Wallace Hall 118, a room specifically set aside for tutoring. Tutors have the option to work with the students individually on problems or lecture on a topic that multiple students are struggling with. Individual sessions can be scheduled at the discretion of the tutor.

GEEKS Mission:

To provide tutoring for KEY freshmen and sophomore classes for engineering students.

Strategic Direction:
  • Lower division classes (200 & 300 level) that are common to most engineering majors
  • Classes with low success rates (high DFW rates for multiple semesters)
  • On a case by case basis, GEEKS will provide tutoring for other classes where there is a demonstrated and consistent need
Courses GEEKS currently offers tutoring for:
  • Calculus I, II, & III
  • Differential Equations
  • Statics & Dynamics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Engineering Physics I & II
  • University Physics I & II
  • Circuits I
  • Introduction to Digital Design
  • Programming in C
  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Introduction to Programming for Engineers
