Heskett Center: Job Opportunities

A variety of part-time employment opportunities are available in our recreation programs and facilities at given times during the year. If you are interested in any of the jobs listed above or would like more information on jobs in campus recreation, contact the Heskett Center Associate Director of Facilities at (316) 978-3082.

 

Student Jobs

Lifeguards

We are not currently hiring but will still accept applications

Applicants must be lifeguard certified. Starting pay is $7.00 an hour. Pick up an application today at the Heskett Center Business office to join our lifeguard team or contact Jessica Varlack at (316) 978-5289 if you are interested in a life guarding position at the Heskett Center.

Benefits include: flexible hours, access to internet while on break, able to swim on break, minimal cleaning duties, extra money making opportunities available with rentals and subs, awesome group of co-workers, great starting pay.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Step 1: Read the Lifeguard Job Description carefully to be sure you have the skills, knowledge, and desire necessary to lifeguard at the Heskett Center. This means that you possess current certifications and that you are willing to perform the duties outlined in the job description.

Step 2: Complete the application.

Step 3: Fill in the blank Heskett Center pool schedule indicating the times that you are available to work.

Step 4: Return the application and hours you are available to work (step 2 & 3) to the Heskett Center front desk for Jessica Varlack.

* YOU WILL BE CONTACTED TO SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR A SWIM TEST.

HIRING PROCEDURE
Step 1: Applicant must be able to:
*swim 400 meters in under 10 minutes
*15 M approach with a rescue tube in 30 sec. or less
*tread water for 2 minutes, legs only
*recover a brick from 12 feet of water using a feet first surface dive
*show competencies with a rescue tube and spinal injury management skills

Step 2: Upon successful completion of the skills test, the applicant will be granted an interview. Applicants will be required to provide copies of all current certifications, a valid driver’s license, and social security card in order to be hired.
