Nutrition Coaching

How many calories should I eat? What is the recommended daily allowance for sodium? Help, I am not losing weight! Looking for some answers to your nutrition questions? Let the Heskett Center provide them. If you are interested in nutrition coaching, read the directions for the three day food log.

Fee: Students & Members $25.00 Nonmembers $50.00

* This counseling is based on guidelines from the following: USDA, ADA and mypyramid.gov. Coaching will include: smart nutrition 101, weight management, shopping, cooking, meal planning tips, & physical activity. We will not discuss supplements, fad diets and eating disorders.

Directions for the three day food log:

  • Open and print a paper food log (pdf), fill out and turn in to Shelley Rich at the Heskett Center (Can be left at the front desk to be placed in my box).
  • OR Create an account with www.fitday.com. Use a username and password that you can share with Shelley, or print out the report after the three days.
  • OR Create an account with www.calorieking.com. Same as above, log in, enter your three days of food and then contact Shelley to set up an appointment.

Tips for successful food logs:

  • To view a sample food log, click here (pdf). This shows three examples: decent example - this is a start that we can discuss, but the number of calories, percentages and reports won't be very accurate
    • Better log - I will be able to more accurately enter your information into food searches to determine the number of calories, fat grams, etc.
Best log - If you give the amount of calories and fat grams from the food label of the food items you eat, I will be able to accurately tell you the number of calories, percentages and reports
  • For best results when reporting your food log:
    • Pick at least one weekend day
    • Try to eat what you normally eat. Try not to think "I really would eat a snickers bar right now, but I don't want to list it on my food log".
    • Easy vs. hard foods to log: eggs & bacon vs. egg casserole, banana vs. homemade banana nut bread, something you normally eat at a fast food restaurant vs. Aunt Sally's secret 25 ingredient soup!!
    • Record everything you put in your mouth: candy off your neighbors desk, alcohol, water, pop, etc...
  • After you have completed your three day food log, contact Shelley.rich@wichita.edu to schedule your nutrition coaching session!
