ROCK CLIMBING

General Information & Hours

The indoor climbing wall at the Wichita Sate University Heskett Center offets the opportunity for year round climbing. The wall is 25 feet tall and has three different climbing routes. Features of the structure includes 650 square feet of climbing surface, movable hand and foot holds, an overhang and beginning to advanced climbing routes. The climbing wall is open to all current students and members of the Heskett Center. However all climbers must attend an instructional belay class and successfully pass the written and skills test before they are allowed to climb. To climb the wall at the Heskett Center, participants must always have their current climbing card.

The Heskett Center Climbing wall is available for structured activities and open recreation. The climbing wall will be shared during open recreation times. The Heskett center will post signs when the climbing wall is reserved for a special event. Climbing wall rules are posted next to the wall.

• Monday - Friday: 6:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. 
• Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. 
• Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

BELAY CLASSES

Climbing Wall Belay Classes are held frequently throughout the semester. The classes are intended to demonstrate belaying and climbing techniques and rules for the climbing wall in the Heskett Center. This class in no way prepares a participant to climb outdoors or at any other indoor climbing facility. Participants must be at least 5 years of age to take the belay class.

A $15.00 fee is charged for the class ($19.00 for non-members). After successfully completing the class, participants receive a climbing card which is valid for one year.

GROUP RENTALS

The climbing wall is available for groups to rent. No prior experience is necessary. The Heskett Center will provide the belayers and all the equipment necessary to climb. Please call John Lee, Associate Director at 316-978-5290 for cost and additional information.
