The WSU Aikido & Jodo Club provides students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to study Tomiki Ryu Aikido and Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo.
Aikido
Professor Kenji Tomiki, a senior student of Morihei Ueshiba, developed an approach to Aikido that is scientific and rational. The katas Tomiki Sensei developed were designed to teach students a basic set of principles. Once these principles are learned and absorbed into muscle memory a person can perform at maximum efficiency with minimal effort. The techniques are taught to control, not to destroy, the attacker thus maintaining the ethical principles of Ueshiba Sensei, the originator of Aikido.
Jodo
Jodo is in short . . . the way of the stick. Jodo was developed by Musô Gonnosuke Katsukichi in the early 1600s. Students will learn to use the Jo, or short staff, to defend against a bokken, wooden sword. Basic techniques will be taught first, followed by the exploration of principles through the study of kata.
Requirements
No prior experience is necessary - just show up for class. A gi is not required - sweat pants and shirt will suffice.

A sport club is a group of WSU Students and/or Heskett Center members organized for the purpose of furthering their interest in a common sport or recreational activity. Sport clubs can be organized for any recreational activity where there is sufficient interest. There are basically three types of sport clubs: instructional, competitive, and recreational.
