Majoring in History
A major in History requires the successful completion of a minimum of 33 credit hours. Transfer students have to complete 15 hours of history at WSU.
All majors complete:
History 300 (Methodology)
History 698 (Historiography)
and 3 credit hours of:
History 100 (World Civilization Since 1500) or
History 101 (Western Civilization I) or
History 102 (Western Civilization II) or
History 103 (History of the World to 1500)
and 3 credit hours of:
History 131 (U.S. History to 1865) or
History 132 (U.S. History 1865-present)
and 3 credit hours at the 500 or 600 level in each of the following areas (for a total of 9 credit hours):
Ancient and Medieval History
Modern European History
American (including Latin American History)
and 12 additional credit hours (6 need to be upper-division (300 level and above).
A minor in History requires students to complete a total of 15 credit hours in History. Only 6 of those hours may be lower-division (100 or 200 level) courses. Students who complete the minor are limited to 3 credit hours of History 310.
