Requirements

All cancellations must be in writing and can be received via e-mail, fax, or mail. Requests by phone to cancel a contract are not considered a valid cancellation and will not be accepted.

Residents may be released from their housing contract without assessment of cancellation charges or fees in the following cases only (proof required):

a) Graduation from the University
b) Marriage
c) Transfer to another University
d) Participation in an approved exchange program
e) Leave in December to live with parents/legal guardians and commute from home for spring semester (freshmen only)
f) Student teaching outside of the Wichita area as defined by the Freshmen Residency Requirement
g) Internships, Co-ops or similar approved programs which take the resident away from the Wichita area
h) An involuntary call-up and/or voluntary enlistment for military service
i) Enroll at another University without ever attending WSU.

All approved reasons require the appropriate paperwork.

Cancellation Request during the Contract Period

Residents who notify Housing and Residence Life before July 1 (December 1 for Spring semester only contracts) in writing of their intention to cancel this contract will receive a 100%
refund of the prepayment or deposit.

Residents who notify Housing and Residence Life on or after July 1 but prior to August 1, (December 1 for Spring semester only contracts) in writing of their intention to cancel this contract
will be charged $275. Any prepayment and/or deposit provided will be first applied to the cancellation fee with the remainder, if any, refunded to the Resident.

Residents who are denied admission to the University and submit a copy of the official notification of denial and a letter requesting a refund to Housing and Residence Life prior to the first
day of classes will receive a refund of the prepayment/deposit.

If it is an approved cancellation, schedule a check-out appointment with your Resident Assistant at least 24 hours in advance of the desired check-out day & time. Failure to properly check-out will result in additional penalties.

If the cancellation request does not meet one of the eight approved reasons, the cancellation request will be denied. The student will still be responsible for the remainder of the University Housing contract, regardless if the student lives there or not.

Canceling for the Spring Term (Spring contracts only)

*Please be aware that this date only refers to students who move in for their spring semester! All students who live on campus for the fall are on a full year contract!*

If canceling prior to December 1st, submit a written request to the WSU Housing Office requesting to cancel your Housing contract. Excluding the $75.00 non-refundable application fee from the $275.00 payment.

If canceling after December 1st but prior to the first day of University Housing move-in for the Spring term, submit a written request to the WSU Housing Office requesting to cancel your Housing contract. The entire $275.00 deposit will be forfeited and a pro-rated charge of 50% of the remaining rent and meal plan charge will be accessed.
