Hiring Process

The departments on campus work in cooperation with the Office of Human Resources to fill vacant positions at the University.  Please click on a link below for assistance in hiring staff in the appropriate category.

 

 Position Category  Definition of Category
 Advertising Contacts  Position vacancies at WSU may be advertised with these venues.
 Affirmative Action Guidelines  Legal guidelines for filling faculty and unclassified professional positions.
 Background Checks  Protocols and Best Practices -- background checks are required for each person hired for a faculty, unclassified or classified positions at WSU that will continue for a term of longer than 6 months. Who Pays? There is a central fund in the Office of Human Resources that will pay for all GU positions through their Business Procurement Card (BPC); RU positions will need to be funded by the hiring unit. OHR will assign the BPC charges for RU positions to the hiring unit.
 Classified Support Staff  Individuals hired to support the University's mission of teaching, research, and service.  Examples include jobs in research support, student programs, physical plant maintenance operations and administrative support.
 Diversity Tips  HR best practice -- how to represent diversity in the Search Process and interview accordingly.
 Faculty  This category would involve teaching, research and service (i.e. assistant professors, instructors, etc.).  Faculty positions are normally benefits eligible and lecturers are not benefits eligible.
Hiring Process Reference Sheet This sheet lists the types of employment, necessary paperwork, and processes to follow.
 Lecturers  This category would involve teaching, research and service (i.e. assistant professors, instructors, etc.).  Faculty positions are normally benefits eligible and lecturers are not benefits eligible.
 PeopleAdmin  Hiring process for all benefits eligible positions.
 Student Employment  Jobs designed to meet the part-time employment needs of students which require student status at WSU. See Student Policies and Procedures at the WSU web site.
 Temporary Employment  Hired for a limited time period to fill in during peak business times or staff shortages.
 Unclassified Professional  These individuals manage University departments or larger units, or require advanced status in a recognized profession.  Examples include deans, department heads, and project engineers.
