Wichita State University is proud to have one of the largest populations of Malaysian students in the U.S. In fact, Wichita State University has hundreds of Malaysian alumni -- many of whom have become successful engineers, businessmen, and scientists!
WSU recognizes the quality of instruction available at many of the colleges in Malaysia. The University has transfer credit agreements with several Malaysian schools and detailed transfer credit information for some of these schools may be found at the bottom of this page.
One reason that students apply to WSU is our generous transfer credit policies. We feel that you should be rewarded for all of the hard work and time that you have spent in your classes in Malaysia. In most cases, we will not ask you to repeat the same subjects that you previously studied in Malaysia.
You will not automatically receive transfer credit for English Composition classes taken outside of the U.S. If you are eligible for English Composition credit, you will be required to take an English test upon your arrival in Wichita. This test, called the English Exit Examination (EEE), is an essay test which measures your mastery of English composition skills. The TOEFL is not a substitute for the English Exit Examination. In fact, you must have passed the TOEFL before taking the EEE. If you pass the EEE, you will receive English Composition credit. If you fail the EEE, you will be required to repeat English Composition at WSU (you will not, however, be required to study in Intensive English). You will receive more information about this examination if you are accepted.
In order to transfer to Wichita State University, you must have a CGPA as follows (excluding any English classes):
For the most part, students doing a 2+2 American degree program in Malaysia will spend about 2 years at Wichita State University. However, you may transfer at any time after your first semester at your school. Unless otherwise noted, you should not take more than 60 credit hours at your school in Malaysia. In general, you must have a "C-" or better in a class for it to transfer to WSU.
Wichita State University offers transfer credit for the STPM and GCE A-levels. In order to receive credit for the STPM or A-levels, please send us the result slip and syllabi (detailed course descriptions) for the subjects you have studied. We will then review the syllabi for possible transfer credit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure to send us an official transcript from your school. We do not accept transcripts which have been stamped "ISSUED TO STUDENT". If we give you at least 24 credit hours of transfer credit, we will not use your SPM results in our admissions decision. However, if you have taken less than 24 credit hours at your school, please be sure to send us your official SPM results.

Mauritanian students are welcome to apply to the Intensive English Language Center, but must submit an application to an academic program as well. Students who apply and are admitted to the Intensive English Language Center and to an academic program will be issued one I-20 (to apply for a student visa) covering studies in both areas. It is not possible for students from Mauritania to be admitted to the Intensive English Language Center without having academic admission. Mauritanian students who are not admissible to an academic program will receive a refund of the US$100 Intensive English Language Center tuition deposit.
To be considered for admission, students from Nepal should send their official 10+2 results, official Proficiency Certificate, or official O-level/A-level results attested by the school, the Fulbright Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or the Ministry of Education and Sports. Wichita State University does not accept attestations by any other ministry or organization.
Wichita State University requires a US$7,000 tuition deposit for all students from Nigeria. Wichita State implemented this policy to help ensure that our Nigerian applicants are bona fide students with the financial ability to study in the U.S. We are confident that this policy will not be a significant burden for students who truly have the financial means to pursue an education in the U.S.
If a student enrolls in classes at WSU but owes less than the US$7,000 deposit they paid previously, the overpayment will not be refunded. Instead, the overpayment will be applied to the student's next semester of enrollment. If a student transfers to another institution after completing their first semester of enrollment at Wichita State University, they will be eligible for a refund of any balance left in their account.
The deposit will be used to pay for WSU tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and medical insurance purchased through the University. No portion of the deposit will be refunded to the student to pay for books, off-campus housing, personal expenses, medical insurance purchased off-campus, etc. You should bring extra money to pay for these expenses. It is important to note that the US$7,000 deposit is not sufficient to pay for all expenses for one semester of enrollment at Wichita State University. For information on the estimated cost of enrollment at Wichita State University for your semester of admission, please read our Pre-Departure Information.
You may pay by check, bank draft, or money order. Nigerian applicants cannot pay using a credit card. The application fee or deposit may be paid by:
The application fee is not refundable. However, if you wish to receive a refund of the US$7,000 tuition deposit and cancel your admission, please return your unused I-20 with a letter requesting a refund. We will only accept a signed request in order to refund your tuition deposit. We will not accept refund requests by e-mail. After we have received your signed request for a refund, we will send your refund by MoneyGram to the student who applied for admission (and not to any other person who may have actually paid the money). Please note that it may take up to 90 days to process a refund.
