About the Artist: This 10-foot-high abstract sculpture was commissioned from Kahn in 2001. Kahn, who uses non-representational forms to evoke spritual truths, sees the WSU commission's flame-like form as a metaphor for the university's educational mission (a beacon of knowledge) and as an allusion to the region's Native American and pioneer heritage (the fire of hearth and home). He has exhibited his work in more than 30 solo shows and is represented in numerous public and private collections across the nation.
