Additional Information about Challenge Day:
Please bring your own equipment, laptops, extension cord, and power strip. Don't forget batteries, cables, software, etc. We will not have items to loan to teams.
There will be a six foot table and several chairs available for each team to work on their robot. The number of tables for each team depends on the number of teams registered. These tables will be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium in a common area for all teams. The missions will also be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium. There is a large seating area (bleachers) and plenty of room for spectators to wander and view the events.
A table will be set up for each team's Team Display and Notebook. Your Team Display and/or Notebook may be used during your Presentation. Please leave a note on your table explaining that your display is currently being used in your Presentation. This will allow judges to skip your table until after your Presentation.
There will be two lounge areas and two classrooms that hold approximately 35 people each in the Heskett Center available for team members to use for lunch and snacking. In addition, there are lounge and commons areas located on campus where teams can gather to eat lunch. Both the lounge areas and classrooms will be open for teams at 8:30am on Challenge Day. A good idea is to have a few parents bring lunch, or set up for lunch, so that team members and coaches can have maximum time at the Competition. Please clean the areas when you are finished. Food and drink are not allowed in the gymnasium area.
The 2014 WSU Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge will end at 4pm. The next hour will be filled with bustling work as teams clear their equipment out of the Heskett Center gymnasium, and remove all personal belongings from the lounge areas. Judges and volunteers will work quickly to tally scores and put together the final counts for the Intermediate and Expert Awards Ceremony. Meanwhile, the media team will work quickly to complete the Awards Ceremony slide show. After clearing out all equipment and belongings, teams and spectators are welcome to take their seats in Room 208 of Hubbard Hall for the Awards Ceremony. Even though the Spirit and Sportsmanship judges have completed their judging, please don't forget to be good sports and enjoy a wonderful finale to a great day. All participants are winners! Don't forget your cameras!
Each Awards Ceremony will start with a photo slide show of Challenge Day. Don't miss this media treat to see and re-live some of the best and most "challenging" moments. All awards for the Beginner (3:00pm - 4:00pm), Intermediate, and Expert (5:00pm - 6:00pm) levels will be given at the respective Awards Ceremony. Each winning team will be called to the stage, with their coach, to receive a LEGO trophy or brick.
