associate professor and the Janice M. Riordan Distinguished Professor in Maternal & Child Health (with an emphasis on breastfeeding & human lactation)


Education: Ph.D., maternal & child nursing/nurse midwifery, University of Illinois Chicago, 2001

Previously: associate professor, Ursuline College Breen School of Nursing, Pepper Pike, Ohio (2011-2012)

Expertise: Kangaroo (skin-to-skin) care starting immediately after birth, breastfeeding & human lactation, endocrinology and neural development for mother and newborn; International Expert in Kangaroo Care for Fullterm Infants; being chosen as Janice M. Riordan Distinguished Professor; completed 26 radio shows on Kangaroo Care, breastfeeding & natural/normal birth 2011-2012; identified interruptions to the breastfeeding dyad on the 1st postpartum day as a barrier to breastfeeding initiation


Barbara is a single mother of two daughters adopted from China.
