As the Chair of the School of Nursing, I want to welcome you to our website, which is our communication link to current and future students, alumnae, faculty and our community. Our accredited bachelor, masters and doctoral programs, enhanced by our metropolitan setting, fully prepares graduates for nursing practice in a variety of settings and growth in their career. Our academic programs are both traditional and non-traditional, giving students a variety of ways to earn a degree in nursing.
Our faculty are dedicated and distinguished educators and researchers, with a mission to improve the health of the community by inspiring change in health care through innovation and excellence in nursing education, scholarship, practice, and service.

- Registered nurses constitute the largest health care occupation with 2.6 million jobs in the US.
- Employment of nurses is expected to grow by 22%, much faster than the average of all occupations.
- Nurses with a bachelor’s degree are more sought after than nurses without one.
- A landmark report on The Future of Nursing, called for increasing the number of baccalaureate prepared nurses in the workforce to 80% by 2020.
- A new study titled Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation, calls all RNs to earn a master’s degree within 10 years of initial licensure.
- There is a growing shortage of health care providers. Advanced Practice Registered Nurses are qualified to provide much needed health care to people of all ages.
How we can help...
We have several options for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to help you pursue your nursing career: a) the traditional
BSN program prepares students for entry-level professional nursing positions in a variety of health care settings and provides a foundation for graduate study in nursing; b) The Early Admission BSN option is a benefit given to high school students who start their college career at Wichita State University and c)
The Accelerated BSN program helps students become qualified nurses in less than two years.
Want to advance your career?
Our RN-BSN Completion Program is designed for registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing to complete a BSN
online option and allows you to take courses any time or any place with the aid of a computer and Internet access. Our Master of Science in
Nursing (MSN) prepares graduates to work as nurse educators or in management/administration. The Doctorate of Nursing
Practice (DNP) program prepares graduates to practice as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (Family Nurse Practitioners, Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse
Practitioners and Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist).

The School of Nursing has been accredited since 1973. Currently, “the baccalaureate, master's, and DNP programs at Wichita State University School of Nursing are accredited by the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, One Dupont Circle, NW,Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 887-6791.”
