 Project Lead The Way Kansas
EDD Scholarship Competition 2009

April 27, 2009

On April 27, 2009, Wichita State University’s College of Engineering hosted the third annual Engineering Design and Development (EDD) Scholarship competition!

First place went to: "Optimization of Automobile's Child Safety Seats"

Second place went to: "Optimizing Modern Wheelchairs"

The competition, for students in the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering program, was part of students’ capstone course, "Engineering Design and Development.” To prepare for the competition, students worked in teams to develop a solution to an open-ended engineering problem. Students’ poster displays were on exhibit in the Engineering Research Laboratory Building, on the WSU campus, on Monday, April 27, from 3:30-4:45 pm.

Projects were judged based on:

  • Problem selection and research
  • Project construction
  • Testing, real data and conclusions
  • Poster presentation

The winners of the competition who entered a WSU College of Engineering program in Fall 2009 were awarded up to $2,000 each (a total of $12,000 was available for scholarships). These scholarships were in addition to other scholarships received from WSU.
