Safe Riders
If you drank too much on your night on the town, and are unable to drive yourself home, you can call Safe Riders, available for the WSU community at a reduced rate.
Through funding by the Student Government Association,
Wichita
State
University
students can use the service for free. Faculty and Staff are eligible for a reduced rate of $12.00, which covers the driver and any passengers. Regular rates at Safe Riders are a $6 pickup fee and $2 per mile.
Safe Riders is a
Wichita
based company in service since 2003. When you call for a driver, the Safe Rider chauffeur comes via a motorized bike that folds up into a 2.5-foot square cube which is put into your trunk. When you arrive at your destination, the chauffeur then uses the bike to meet up with the Safe Rider van for another pickup.
In the first month, Safe Riders provided 100 rides to WSU students. In September, 2006 nearly 300 students used the program. Safe Riders provides an inexpensive option for the WSU community to avoid driving drunk, and to get home safely.
Call Safe Riders at (316) 461-7433, which operates from
8 p.m.
to
3 a.m.
They will pick you up anywhere in
Wichita
and drop you off anywhere in
Wichita
