The Heat Index is a combination of the current outdoor temperature and the relative humidity, or amount of moisture in the air. The higher the outdoor temperature and relative humidity, the greater the heat index and more at risk you and your pets are to suffer from heat problems.
If the Heat Index value is about 105 degrees, the National Weather Service will issue a heat advisory, and special precautions are necessary.

NOTE: Exposure to full sunshine can increase Heat Index Values by up to 15%.
Strong, dry winds are also very dangerous.
Heat Index Values greater than 90 are considered Extreme
Heat Index Values greater than 100 are considered Hazardous
Heat Index Values greater than 110 are considered Dangerous
