Wichita State Rowing is fortunate in that one of the Midwest Premier Fall Regatta’s, The Frostbite Regatta takes place less than 2 miles from the BG Boathouse on the Little Arkansas in Wichita. This scenic river runs through the historic and lovely Riverside neighborhood. The course has many curves and requires sharp navigation through bridges making it one of the most difficult regattas to steer, but great training for WSU coxswains and scullers who can easily navigate other courses after time on the Little Ark.
Shocker Rowing uses the location to train for the Frostbite or when other occasions require the longer waterway. The Little Arkansas has been home to WSU Rowing and Wichita Rowing in the past. In fact, Wichitans have been rowing since 1898 on the Little Arkansas when the Murdock Boat House and Riverside Boat Company were one of the town’s premier entertainments.
Little Arkansas Rowing launches near the parking lot to the Ralph Wulz Tennis Center.
