What does it cost to be a member of WSU SIFE?
There are no membership fees! All we ask for is a little bit of your time.
What does a WSU SIFE member do?
WSU SIFE members volunteer their time and talents to improve the Wichita community through outreach projects focused on free enterprise education. This can involve teaching college students about investing, teaching elementary school students about saving goals, or being a mentor for a troubled teenager. In addition to educational projects, this year we are initiating several projects to gain experience with entrepreneurship assistance, while learning the process of market research, presentation, and the fundamentals of running a business. Diverse members each contribute differently. We need members to plan our projects, participate in hands-on activities, document our projects with video and pictures, write and contact local media, and help us communicate with our supporters.
What if I don't have a lot of time?
WSU SIFE members are expected to volunteer at a level they feel comfortable with. There is no minimum number of hours to be a member. However, if you truly want to get the most out of your SIFE experience, active involvement and attendance is recommended.
What are some benefits of SIFE?
SIFE Members gain personal satisfaction from helping others, and get real world experience. Imagine being able to say you managed a project that impacted hundreds or even thousands of people in the Wichita area. You've organized resources, a budget, and people - this puts you a step above most college students entering the job market! Speaking of jobs, on a national level, SIFE is the prime recruiting ground for many major corporations. Every year they flock to job fairs to meet the students who make SIFE a great organization. Locally, you will have the opportunity to work with many business leaders and educators on SIFE projects.
What is the Presentation Team?
Did you know WSU has a team that is respected nationwide, has never lost in regional competition, and has been ranked among the top 16 in the world?
Every Spring, SIFE teams from around the world prepare a 25 minute presentation to share their project acomplishments with the world. A team of selected presenters is supported by a cutting edge multimedia presentation that highlights our projects. A panel of executives from supporting companies judge presentations on how effective SIFE teams are at teaching free enterprise and impacting the world.
Regional Competitions are held nationwide with the top teams advancing to the National Expo in Chicago for 2008. At Nationals, one team is selected to represent the USA at the International Competition.
