2009-2010 WSU Dance Team: Tryouts

 

The tryouts for the 2009-2010 WSU Dance team will be on
 Thursday April 23rd, Friday 24th and Saturday 25th, 2009.
(See Schedule below for details.)

The Wichita State University Dance Team Program is home to one dance team. The performance opportunity is to dance on the sidelines and half-time performances for men’s and women's home basketball games. In October the dance team will participate at Shocker Madness, the opening scrimmages of basketball season. Additionally, the team takes part in community performances and events. The dance team represents Wichita State University at a national dance competition.

Material for Try-Outs: Additional Required Skills:
* 1 Pom/Hip Hop Routine
* 1 Jazz Routine
 

* Double /Triple Pirouette
* Switch Leap
* Leap in 2nd Position
* Fouette Turns

* There is a $10.00 tryout fee.
* All dancers trying out need to wear black hot pants (tights optional) and a yellow/gold sports bra.

Schedule for the weekend:
Thursday, April 23rd Charles Koch Arena
6:00PM - 9:00PM Check in-Registration. Please bring your Shocker Identification Card with you.
                        Start Tryout Routine, Technique Overview
9:00PM - Dismiss

Nationals Technical Skill Requirements

Turns:
Double Pirouette (turned out in passe) - Right and Left
Triole Pirouette (parallel and turned out in passe) - Right and Left
Fouette Turns a la Seconde - Right and Left
Fouette Combo - Fouette a la seconde 12 34 fouette 5 into low attidue, knees together
Forced arch double or triple pirouette 678 - Right or Left

Leaps:
Grand Jete a la seconde - Right and Left
Switch Leap - Right and Left
Chaine Leap in 2nd traveling downstage - Right and Left
Double attitude derriere leap (both with spine stright and arched) - Right and Left

Flexability:
Pirouette holding leg in 4th Devant - Right and Left
Pirouette holding leg in 2nd Position - Right and Left
Tilted Leg Hold - Right and Left
Chaine Fan (Four times) - Right and Left
Panche Arabesque - Right and Left

 

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for members on the dance team.
