Talent Search

Talent Search is a federal TRIO Program under the Higher Education Act of 1965 (Subpart 4. P.L.92318 as amended). Talent Search receives its funding from the United States Department of Education.

Talent Search aims to:

  1. Identify youths with potential for education at the postsecondary level and to encourage such youths to complete secondary school and to undertake a program of post secondary education.
  2. Publicize the availability of student financial assistance available to persons who pursue a program of postsecondary education.
  3. Encourage persons who have not completed programs of education at the secondary or postsecondary level, but who have the ability to complete such programs, to reenter such programs (Section 402B of Higher Education ACT of 1965).

At least two-thirds of the program's participants are low-income individuals who are potential first-generation college students.

The target area for our program includes high schools and middle schools in USD 259 and high schools in Southeast Kansas.

Talent Search assists middle school and high school students who have a desire to pursue postsecondary education. Talent Search is hosted by Wichita State University.
