The form 1098T is an IRS (Internal Revenue Service) form provided to students who enroll in classes at Wichita State University. The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97) established two education tax credits: The Hope Credit for students enrolled in one of the first two years of post-secondary education and who are carrying at least a half-time workload while pursuing an undergraduate degree; and the Lifetime Learning Credit for students who take one or more classes from a college/university to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree. Form 1098T supplies a portion of the information needed by taxpayers to claim the Hope and Lifetime tax credits. By Federal law, this form needs to be mailed to the student by January 31 of each year. In addition, students are able to access the form online and print additional copies as necessary.
By signing up for an electronic 1098T, you will be able to access it as soon as it is published. Log in to 1098T Electronic Tax Form - THINK GREEN*. Your PIN will be emailed to the email address you provide. More information for Heartland Campus Solutions (formerly ECSI) is provided below under How to Access Your 1098T Online.
For those not signed up for an electronic 1098T, the form will be mailed to the current address that WSU has on file for the student. If the student has moved without correcting the mailing address with WSU, he or she may not receive the form. Address information can be corrected through the Registrar's Office located in Jardine Hall on the 1st floor in person or by calling (316) 978-3055.
Please note that not all of the boxes on the form 1098T will contain numbers. Federal law requires Wichita State University to report either the amounts billed to students, or the amounts paid by students. WSU has elected to report the amounts billed to students. We report the amounts billed on a calendar year basis. This means that tuition charges billed in December for the following Spring term will be reported in the calendar year they are billed, not the calendar year the classes are actually taken. WSU will also report the amount of financial aid received that the student does not need to repay. This means that loans are not included in the reported financial aid amount. Financial aid will be reported on the form 1098T for the calendar year it is disbursed, not the year it is awarded.
For questions, please call (316) 978-3076 or email us at WSUAccountsReceivable@wichita.edu, or you may write us at WSU Accounts Receivable, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260-0038.
Your social security number is required for accurate IRS education tax credit reporting.
