Admissions Open House
Explore all that Wichita State has to offer during Open House. This day has something for everyone, whether you’re a transfer student, returning adult, or high school student come see what WSU has to offer you. Students will plan their day according to their interests. There will be interactive sessions, academic advising sessions, lab tours, campus tours, residence halls tours, and Koch Arena tours available. Students can visit with representatives from the student involvement groups during the organization fair. Representatives will be available to answer questions about admissions, academic programs, and financial aid and scholarships. Open House includes lunch on campus and the opportunity to meet and talk with current WSU students. Students must RSVP to attend. Cost is $15 per student and $5 for each guest which cover lunch, program materials and a Shocker t-shirt for the student. Hosted in April.
Access College Today
Access College Today is a unique opportunity for students with disabilities. Access College Today provides an opportunity for students to see Wichita State’s campus, learn more about the admissions process, Financial Aid, Disability Services and TRIO Disability Support Services. Students will also have the opportunity to tour our on-campus housing and eat in the dining hall. Free to attend, hosted in October.
Adult Learner Forum
Thinking about going back to school? Would you like to know more about Wichita State and what we have to offer you? Please join us for an Adult Forum covering Admissions, Financial Aid, Adult Programs, and more. Free to attend.
If you are currently a high school freshman and participant of AVID you can come and join us for a day of learning and excitement! AVID students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff during the academic sessions, and visit with current WSU students. Students must RSVP to attend. Free to attend, hosted in March.
Personalized campus visits are geared toward high school juniors, seniors, college transfer students, returning adult students and their parents or guests. Each visit will include a Wichita State informational session and a one-on-one meeting with an admissions representative. In addition to that you may choose to tour campus and our on-campus housing facilities, meet with an advisor about your intended major and a variety of other options. Students can schedule a campus visit any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday when classes are in session. Limited campus visits are offered during January and August, when student r egistration is under way. Students will not be able to enroll during their campus visit. Community College Day*
In cooperation with Academic Affairs, the Office of Admissions helps to host community college advisors, administrators and other personnel to WSU each year. Attendees will benefit from comprehensive information about Wichita State academics, transfer scholarship opportunities and open dialogue with the WSU community. Behind the scenes tours, lunch and a special WSU gift are also provided to each attendee. *This is an invitation-only program, but open to any community college advisor.
Community College Breakfast and Luncheon
Coordinated individually at select Kansas community colleges, these annual programs occur across the state. Community college advisors, faculty and administrators have an opportunity to interact with WSU administrators, advisors and admissions staff in a focused event. Transfer advising, scholarship and student life opportunities are shared during this activity.
Discover Wichita State is a program provided for juniors, seniors, transfer students and their parents (or guest) in various cities throughout Kansas. You will learn about the programs and opportunities available at WSU through current students and staff. Dinner is provided for the student and one guest. Each additional guest will be charged $10. Hosted in September.
Distinguished Scholarship Invitational*
The Distinguished Scholarship Invitational is an event that is open to high school seniors who meet certain academic criteria and the WSU admissions deadline of Nov. 1. During the day, students will compete for one of two Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships, which are two of the largest individual, undergraduate scholarships in Kansas. The Gore Scholarships are based on academics and leadership and are worth $52,000 each. For more information, visit wichita.edu/DSI. Diversity Leadership Symposium
Wichita State University welcomes students from diverse backgrounds to a day full of fun where they will have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of a Shocker. Learn about our degrees, opportunities and resources and hear from current WSU students! Information on campus life, student organizations and scholarships will also be provided. Free to attend, hosted in October.
These visits are geared toward groups of students who are interested in learning more about Wichita State and the application process. A group visit consists of a presentation that is tailored to the students in the group and a walking tour of the Wichita State campus. If there are specific things your group would like covered in the presentation, please let Admissions know. High School Counselor Appreciation Day*
This annual program is designed for high school counselors and provides them with the latest in admissions information, scholarships and general WSU information. Attendees will be able to interact with WSU student ambassadors, staff members and administrators. Guests are treated to lunch, a tour of a WSU facility and much more. *This is an invitation-only program, but open to all high school counselors.
International Baccalaureate Senior Day
Wichita State University’s IB Senior Day is an event specially designed for high-achieving, IB students from across the state of Kansas. Attendees will learn about the WSU Honors program, undergraduate research opportunities, and even participate in a service learning project alongside current WSU students. We’ll have former IB graduates turned Shockers to talk to you all about the transition from IB student to Wichita State student. Free to attend, hosted in October.
Experience what it's like to be a Shocker during this exclusive day for high school juniors. Luncheon for Excellence in Academics and Diversity (LEAD)*
Wichita State University welcomes accomplished students from diverse backgrounds to a day full of fun. Students will have the opportunity to learn about our degrees, opportunities and resources. This program features a special presentation by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and current WSU student perspectives! Information on campus life, student organizations and scholarships will also be provided. Free to attend, hosted in October. *This is an invitation-only event.
Middle School Visit Days
While limited resources make it difficult for the Office of Admissions to host middle school groups regularly, this annual opportunity exists for middle schools to bring their students to WSU to see a brief glimpse of college life. Students have an opportunity to meet with WSU staff, students and take an informal tour of campus. Space is limited and fills up quickly. Free to attend, hosted several times in the fall and spring.
National Merit Luncheon*
Wichita State University hosts a recognition luncheon for students who have been named National Merit Semi-Finalists. Students will meet faculty from their intended major, hear from the president of WSU as well as other academic leaders on campus, and find out the details of our National Merit Scholarship. The luncheon is also an opportunity for students to learn more about the Honors College at Wichita State. Free to attend, hosted in October or November. *This is an invitation only event.
Parent Information Workshop
Offered each year, the Parent Information Workshop makes parents aware of the many benefits and opportunities of being a Shocker. Parents of admitted students will learn about student success resources, hear from WSU administrators and parents of current WSU students. We invite you to learn why your student might be a good fit at Wichita State. Free to attend, hosted in December.
Preparing for College
Wichita State University has developed this special program to give high school juniors (and their parents!) information on college preparation. This free seminar is an opportunity to have your college search questions and concerns answered by professional staff from WSU. Topics to be discussed include: Researching colleges and the admissions process, financing college and applying for scholarships, avoiding pitfalls during the college search process, taking advantage of student success resources. Free to attend.
Senior Day is the ideal time for high school seniors to break out of their normal routine and spend a day exploring WSU. Students will tour the academic colleges and labs, and also have the chance to hear about current research our students and professors are involved in. Senior Day includes lunch on campus and the opportunity to meet and talk with current WSU students. Students will have the option to tour campus, the residence halls and Koch Arena. Students must RSVP to attend. Cost is $15 per student and $5 for each guest which cover lunch, program materials and a Shocker t-shirt for the student. Hosted in October.
Shocker Information Night
Interested in learning more about Wichita State? You and your student are invited to come learn about all the things that make the WSU experience so unique. You’ll learn about the application process, scholarship opportunities, and so much more! Representatives from the Office of Admissions will be on-hand to answer questions. Free to attend, hosted in August.
Shocker Honors Scholars Banquet*
The top 10 percent of high school juniors from across Kansas are invited to WSU for an evening banquet of recognition and to learn about the great opportunities awaiting them at Wichita State. Students will have the opportunity to hear about some of WSU’s premier programs, including the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational, National Student Exchange and the Honors College. Each student will be presented with a certificate and a special gift on behalf of the university. Free to attend, hosted in November. *This is an invitation only event.
Shocker Leadership Academy
Wichita State University’s Shocker Leadership Academy (SLA) is a leadership academy for select high school juniors. Participants will engage in monthly leadership-development activities and exercises held at Wichita State University and in the Wichita community. Students will benefit by enhancing their leadership skills, resume and experiences. The program is sponsored and coordinated by the WSU Office of Admissions. Shocker Saturdays are designed to be a flexible option for students interested in getting more information about Wichita State. Appointments with departments outside of Admissions and Housing and Residence Life will not be available on Shocker Saturdays. If you’d like to meet with other departments, schedule a campus visit during a weekday. Free to attend.
Get an inside look at area businesses that employ Shocker graduates at this dessert reception for potential students! Attendees will hear from WSU alumni and staff, tour facilities and get their questions answered. Free to attend.
Student Ambassador Society Leadership Conference
Members of the WSU Student Ambassador Society invite high school students to Wichita State for a day of inspiration and leadership. This program is designed to give high school students the tools to become leaders through their college years and throughout their lives. $15 to attend, hosted in March.
WSU Visit Day
Consider this an open invitation! If you are still in the deciding phase of their college search, we encourage you to visit Wichita State. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore our buildings, talk to current students and get a feel for what it's like to be a Shocker student. Some of the information at this program will be tailored to high school seniors, but all students in the deciding phase of their college searches are welcome to attend! Free to attend.
