Human resource management is the process of attracting the most qualified employees and to match them to the jobs for which they are best suited. This involves recruiting, interviewing and hiring of new employees as well as providing training programs to improve employee performance. Human resource management professionals also design and oversee the use of performance appraisal systems, establish and maintain a pay and benefits system, and deal with employee grievances and discipline issues. These activities all require extensive knowledge of a firm and all individual jobs held as well as the legal environment.
The Human Resource Management program at Wichita State University prepares you to meet the certification requirements for human resource professionals established by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The Wichita State University Student Chapter of SHRM is very active and helps students make important professional contacts. Wichita State University is the only Kansas Board of Regents institution to offer a degree program in human resource management.
