College of Business Academic Advising

What should I do before an academic advising appointment?
  1. Be fully admitted to Wichita State University. Or if you have taken classes at Wichita  State University before, then you may need to reactive your student status with the Registrar's Office.
  2. If you attended another college or university, bring copies of your transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be acceptable for your first advising appointment). Send official transcripts directly to the Registrar's Office.
  3. Set up your myWSU password. In your admissions letter, you received your myWSU ID number. On the myWSU login page, click on "Manage your password" under the Login information. Write down your password and bring it with you to your appointment.
  4. New Students -- Submit a Student Health Immunization Form. Contact the Student Health Services at (316) 978-3620 for more information.
  5. If you have not taken the ACT or SAT and have not started taking English or Math courses, take the English and Math placement exams.
  6. If you have any advanced credit from national testing programs (AP, CLEP, DANTES, etc.), please send your official test scores to the Counseling and Testing Center.

The earlier you begin and complete these steps, the more successful you will be in getting the ideal classes, schedule, and services to meet your needs.

What happens during an academic advising appointment?

You will meet with an academic advisor to discuss your academic plans and career goals. The advisor will evaluate any transfer coursework in relation to degree and major requirements. The advisor will go over degree and major requirements, help you build a class schedule and help you enroll in the classes. Appointments usually last 30-45 minutes. You should bring a copy of all your previous transcripts.
