Q: How do I sign up for Professional Edge?

Enroll in BADM 191 (CRN 16395) for the Fall 2017 semester. This is a zero-credit course with a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading system. You will not be charged for this class. The class is graded as pass/fail, but will not affect your GPA.

If you need help enrolling in a course, please contact one of the academic advisors in the Barton School of Business or one of the OneStop advisors.

Q: What are the Professional Edge requirements for the first semester (Fall 2017)?

To earn a satisfactory grade for BADM 191 in Fall 2017, you must complete at least one event from each of the following:

  1. Self-Assessment
  2. Communication
  3. Barton School of Business Event
  4. Career Development Center / Student Group Event
  5. Business Networking Event

Q: Who will be conducting Professional Edge events?

Most of the Professional Edge events will be conducted by the Barton School’s business partners. These are employees of Wichita area businesses, who are sharing their talent and time to benefit you.

Q: What is the dress code for events?

For most small group events, business casual is highly recommended – remember, this program is for your professional development, so let’s begin by dressing professionally. For large group events, casual attire is acceptable.

Q: Do I have to sign up for individual sessions and events?

Yes. There will be sign-ups for most individual events. The Schedule of Events will indicate which events require a sign-up.

Q: What do I do if I sign up for an event, but am unable to attend?

If you are unable to attend an event, contact Professional Edge Program Manager Wendy Veatch at wendy.veatch@wichita.edu or call 316-978-3441, 24 hours prior to the event.

Many events will have limited capacity, so no-shows may prevent others from attending.

Q: Do I have to complete one event from each of the five categories to meet the requirements?

Yes, substitutions are not allowed. You may however do more than one event in each of the five categories.

Q: How will my participation be recorded?

At each event, you will be asked to swipe your Shocker ID that will record your participation. 

For most events, an online assessment will be available on Blackboard after the event. Assessments must be completed within 48 hours of the event's conclusion. If an assessment is required, you must complete it for credit toward participation. 

Refer to the Schedule of events to see which events require an assessment.

Q: Do I have to attend an orientation session?

Yes, all students are required to attend an orientation session. There are two sessions planned:

  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 in 266 Rhatigan Student Center
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 25 in 200 Clinton Hall

Q: Is participation in the program required for graduation? 

No.

Q: What happens if I do not meet all of the requirements? Will it affect my grade point average?

You will get a grade of unsatisfactory for this course, and you will not be able to enroll in the next Professional Edge Course. If you have already enrolled for the next course, your enrollment will be dropped administratively.

Since all Professional Edge courses are zero-credit, your GPA will not be negatively affected.

Yes. BADM 191 will be offered every semester.
