SHOCKER BOWLING CAMPS

Shocker Bowling Camp Frequently Asked Questions

I would like to accompany my son or daughter to one of your Shocker Bowling Camps. Is this allowed?
Yes! Parents are welcome to accompany campers and can even sit in on the classroom and on- lane sessions.

Is housing provided this year for campers in the dorms?
We will be using our new $70 million dorm, Shocker Hall, for campers in the Youth Weekend Camps. Parents/guests can stay at local hotels. Hotel information will be forwarded along with the confirmation for camp registration. Housing is not provided for both the Youth Day Camp and the Nuts & Bolts Camp.

How many bowling balls should I bring with me to camp?
No more than three bowling balls are necessary for camp. Make sure you bring a plastic/urethane ball, or whatever ball you use to shoot spares with.

What should I bring to camp?
You should bring athletic clothes and athletic shoes, as we will be doing some physical fitness training before and after bowling. Linens are provided in the dorms but you may bring your own if you would like.

Will camps be conducted on the campus of Wichita State?
Yes. WSU Shocker Bowling Camps will again be held on campus in our home, the Rhatigan Student Center, RSC. Our $35 million renovation of the RSC is completed. The building is done and it is incredible.

I am adding on the extra ball and/or shoes option for one of the camps. What ones are available for me to select?
The options for the bowling ball add-on is any ball from the current Storm Bowling Ball line. For the shoes, the men can order the black and gold pair of SST-8s and the women can order the red/black/white SST-8s.

Are your camps still open for registration?
Yes! When a camp is full the registration system will notify you and ask you to join a waiting list. We consistently have used people off our waiting lists because campers sign up so early and things can come up prior to camp. As camps fill we will also make that announcement on our 'Camp Dates' and 'Camp Information' pages. If you are unsure if a camp has openings or not, feel free to e-mail us or call the office (shocker.bowling@wichita.edu or 316-978-7655).

My child is flying in from another state and we are not accompanying them. Will someone be able to pick them up at the airport? How far are you from the airport?
Yes, we offer that service only for the three Youth Weekend Camps where we provide lodging on campus in our university dorms. For all other camps, we are not able to accommodate children traveling alone.
The Wichita airport, Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport, is about 15-20 minutes from the campus of Wichita State University.

Will my son or daughter get enough time with one of the coaches or is it more of a large scale camp?
Our camp is designed so that the campers get a more personalized experience. There is a maximum of 5 campers per coach, but more often than not, it is less than 5 per coach. This allows the campers to get more individualized instruction to focus on their own games. In addition, each camper in our Weekend Camps will receive an individual video lesson recorded on DVD for them to take home and use again and again.

Will there be any pro bowlers at your camp?
This year we will have a staff member/representative from Storm Bowling at our weekend camps, schedule permitting. We hope to know the specific person from Storm Bowling just prior to the camp.

Can I make a deposit for a camp?
Yes. Once you enter your information in the online registration system, at the end of the process you will get to the check-out section and you will get options on how to pay (full payment or make a deposit). If you make a deposit you can log back in later and make additional payments. A $100 deposit is required to hold you place in the camp. Full camp payment is due three weeks before the first day of camp.
