Lady Shockers Earn Top Honors for Outstanding Season

WICHITA, Kan. – Four members of the Shocker women’s bowling team earned honors at the Night of Champions Banquet which was held in conjunction with the xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships last week in Lincoln, Neb.

Wichita State senior Jazreel Tan (Singapore) finished her collegiate career with a fourth consecutive spot as a First-Team All-American, becoming only the second person in history to earn a spot all four years of her collegiate career.

“It’s amazing and such an honor to be able to get that, not to mention four times in a row,” Tan said.

She also earned the prestigious IBMA Collegiate Bowler of the Year award, a third time accomplishment for the senior. She is the only female bowler to earn the award three times.

“The same goes with the Bowler of the Year, it’s an award that not many people can say they have gotten, but to be able to get that three years in a row – I am humbled and honored again,” Tan said. “But all this aside, without all my teammates and friends throughout the years, and the coaches, and especially the support from my family back home, none of this is possible.”

Fellow teammate Tannya Roumimper (Bandung, Indonesia) earned the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association’s (NCBCA) Most Valuable Player award for the 2012-13 season.

The WSU junior averaged 208.22 over the course of the year, and topped the field at two tournaments this season in addition to four top-five finishes.

“The feeling of receiving those awards is indescribable, but knowing that all my teammates are happy for me is the most amazing feeling,” Roumimper said. “I cannot thank them enough.”

In addition to her MVP award, the Indonesia-native earned a First Team All-American title for her performance this year. The International Bowling Media Association also named her a runner-up for Collegiate Bowler of the Year, an award that went to fellow teammate, Jazreel Tan (Singapore).

WSU junior Kelsey Muther (Topeka, Kan.) earned an NCBCA Second Team All-American award for her efforts this season. She finished the season with a 197.8 average.

Freshman Dasha Kovalova (Ukraine) earned an NCBCA and IBMA Honorable Mention award for her performance this season. Kovalova completed the season with a 207.9 average.

Shocker Bowling’s Assistant Coach Mark Lewis was awarded the NCBCA Kerm Helmer Coach of the Year award for his performance this season with the WSU women’s team. This is the second time Lewis has earned the award, the first was in 2007.
