WICHITA, Kan. – The Shocker men have failed to qualify for the Intercollegiate Team Championships for the first time in 28 years.
The men fell short at the ITC Sectional Qualifier this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev. They started the tournament slow, finishing the first day in ninth place after averaging 190.2 for the 32-Baker game set.
The second day didn’t look up for the men as they struggled to match up to the lane condition. After 64 Baker games of qualifying, the men fell 500 pins short of the cut.
The last time the Shocker men didn’t advance to the championships was in 1985. Since then, they have won the national title nine times.
The ITC Sectional Qualifier consisted of four locations across the country with the top four teams, in each division, advancing to the Intercollegiate Team Championships next month in Lincoln, Neb.
The Lady Shockers had a steady start on the first day of competition, leading the field by nearly 100 pins to second place University of Maryland – Eastern Shore. The women quickly found the pace the second day and never looked back, dominating the tournament by nearly 400 pins.
The women will travel to Lincoln, Neb., next month in the hopes of earning title No. 20 for the Shockers.
