Scholarships

The Barton School of Business awards scholarships to incoming freshmen, continuing students, and to transfer students (see below for details). Most scholarships are for full-time students (those enrolled in 12 credit hours of more) and are based on academic performance.

High School Seniors:

The W. Frank Barton School of Business hosts the Allen, Gibbs and Houlik, L.C. Scholarship Competition in November of each year for students who will be graduating from high school the following May. Students must have a 3.5 high school grade point average (based on six semesters of high school work) and have a minimum ACT composite score of 24.

In 2009, this competition will be held on November 13th (the Friday before the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational). You must be admitted to WSU by October 10th, 2009 and declare a business major. You must participate in this competition to be eligible for the $44,000 Clay Barton Scholarship. The first 60 eligible students will be admitted to the competition. If you are interested in competing, please call 978-3200 for more details.

In addition to the Clay Barton Scholarship, the Barton School also awards two $20,000 Jabara Scholarships each year to students interested in pursing a degree in business majoring in entrepreneurship at Wichita State University. Students receiving these scholarships are mentored by Fran Jabara, former Dean of the Barton School of Business and founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship. This is an invaluable experience for students interested in all phases of business. Many of the current recipients of the Jabara Scholarships have a double major in entrepreneurship and another area of business. Don't make the mistake of thinking that entrepreneurship is only relevant to those individuals starting their own business. The process of entrepreneurial thinking - conceiving, evaluating, and implementing new business ideas - is crucial for everyone interested in business.

If you are interested in competing, please fill out the "Yes, I Wish To Compete!" Form (see below) and mail or fax to the address on the form. We will acknowledge receipt of your information by mail.

Continuing students and transfer students:

In the early spring of each year, the Barton School accepts scholarship applications from incoming transfer students, and students who are continuing their studies in the Barton School of Business. The scholarship application is available on-line (see below). If you are applying to the University for scholarship assistance, we ask that you ALSO complete our application. If you are an Accounting major and wish to apply for accounting scholarships, please complete the Accounting Addendum as well. The priority date is February 1st for scholarships awarded for the following academic year. (This means that students who apply PRIOR to this date have first priority.) Most scholarships in the Barton School are based on academic merit. For more information contact (316) 978-3200. Sometimes we have students who do not pick up their scholarships that have been award for the academic year. We will re-award that money for the Spring semester.
