Career Services

We provide services for all undergraduate and graduate students, as well as WSU alumni.
All services are geared toward helping Shockers become professionals. A wide range of services includes career counseling and testing, job search help, resume critiques, mock interviews, networking opportunities, career fairs, and interview days. All are free to current students and for one year after graduation. A minimal fee is charged for counseling appointments after that time.

The majority of WSU students work either part-time or full-time while completing a degree. Working in an office, care facility,  library, museum, bank, hotel, or restaurant helps to build transferrable skills that will be used in all jobs. Skills such as communication, critical thinking, leadership, work ethic, time management, and tech literacy are expected by employers.

All students and alumni have access to the online recruiting system, Hire-a-Shocker, through their myWSU account. They can post a resume, job search, contact employers, sign up for on-campus interviews, and preview career-related events. The variety of paid experiences may include career-related activities, however, all work experience leads to refined people skills and technical skills. Career Services’ counselors offer resume-to-interview help, so each student can present a resume that best showcases his or her skills and accomplishments. They also prepare students to talk about transferrable skills in the interview. Transferable skills are also known as employability skills, softs skills, or work-place skills.

Cooperative Education & Internships

Co-op provides academic services for select students who meet the specific academic requirements of their college and are able to obtain an approved co-op or internship opportunity. Students learn to apply theory and knowledge from coursework in their major to the job experience. The annual “Kegger” event held in the fall semester showcases employers who hire interns. The workplace supervisor, a faculty liaison, and co-op coordinator serve as the learning team for the student.
