ALPHA ETA SOCIETY

Alpha Eta is the national scholastic honor society for the Allied Health Professions. The society was founded in 1975 and was named for the Greek letters equivalent to the first letters of Allied Health. Its purposes arethe promotion and recognition of significant scholarship,leadership, and contributions to the Allied Health Professions.The society'smotto is "Together We Serve, " and its colors are light green and white.

Wichita State Chapter

The Wichita State Chapter was chartered in 1983 and is one of 58 chapters established at institutions of higher education in the United States. Dr. Sidney Rodenberg, then Dean of the College of Health Professions, was a charter member. Every year, College of Health Professions faculty who are members of Alpha Eta recommend up to 20% of their graduating classes for induction.

Criteria for Induction

Students working towardundergraduate degrees must maintainGPAs of 3.5 or better while enrolled in their professional allied health programs. Graduate students must maintain GPAs of 3.8 or higher while enrolled in their programs. All candidates should showcapacity for leadership and achievement in their chosen fields, be recommended by members of Alpha Eta, and approved by the Dean of the College.

Faculty candidates must have a minimum of three years experience as educators in their disciplines andalso must have significant records of scholarship, leadership, and service to Allied Health education or practice.

Rodenberg Award

Each fall, one student in allied health professions programs may be nominated by each Alpha Eta Chapter to receive the national Sidney D. Rodenberg Memorial Scholastic Award, namedin honor of Dr. Rodenberg, who was the Dean of the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University from January 1976 until his death in August 1986. Nominees should excel in the areas of scholarship and leadership. The recipient receives an award of $1,000 in recognition of his/her accomplishments.

Student of the Month

Students in allied health professions programs at Wichita State University are nominated by their respective programs to be the Student of the Month. Recipients' pictures and biographical information are displayed on the second floor of Ahlberg Hall. Honorees are recognized at a College of Health Professions College Association meeting and receivegift certificates from the campus bookstore.
