Application Review Process

The application review process consists of:

Step 1
The admissions committee will review all applications for overall GPA, prerequisite courses completed, grades in prerequisite courses, applicant questionnaire and dental/healthcare work experience. The top 75 applicants will be selected to progress to the next step in the application process.

Step 2
Progression in the admission process involves department review of the Observation of Dental Hygienist in Clinical Dental Practice Form and completion of the Test of Essential Academic Skills1 (TEAS).

a. All applicants must submit the Observation Form with the application.

b. The top 75 applicants will be required to take the TEAS test. The top 75 applicants will be notified by letter by the end of January 2010. Instructions for the TEAS test will be included in the letter.

Step 3
The admissions committee will review all materials criteria for the top 75 applicants and notify applicants of their status no later than the first week of April.

1 Test of Essential Academic Skills

The TEAS is comprised of four sections; English, Math, Science, and Reading. The test takes approximately 3 hours. Applicants are able to immediately receive their scores after completing the test. Applicants are encouraged to visit the website www.atitesting.com for more information about the test. The company that developed the test recommends individuals take a few months in advance of the test to prepare. A study manual and practice tests are available for purchase through the website.

If you have previously taken the TEAS exam you will not have to retake the exam unless you want to. If you took the TEAS with the Dental Hygiene Department, the department can access that score. If you took the TEAS with any other program or school, you must submit a copy of the results page to the department. There is no time limit on the TEAS. We will use the highest score.
