An advising syllabus is a tool used at Wichita State University, College of Health Professions to define the academic partnership between the advisor and student. Both students and advisors have clear responsibilities for ensuring the academic partnership is successful by outlining and defining the roles and expectations that are to be met by both individuals during a student's academic endeavor.
These roles and expectations are shared in a syllabus format to help provide an official acknowledgement and agreement between the student and advisor. Upon a student's introduction to his or her advisor, we ask that both the student and advisor review this syllabus and acknowledge their understanding of the academic partnership they are entering into. Then to officialize this acknowledgement we ask for both the student and advisor to sign their signature on the syllabus to hold on record.
