
Three years of effort by Via Christi Health System and Wichita State University researchers resulted Tuesday, May 19, in the award of a one-year, $4 million grant that should extend to a five-year, $20 million grant to support the Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic Research (CIBOR) in Wichita.

Dr. Paul H. Wooley, KBA eminent scholar and director of research for the Orthopaedic Research Institute at Via Christi, will serve as research director for CIBOR.
Dr. Wooley is widely recognized as an expert in the immunological aspects of biocompatibility, and has numerous publications on biological responses to orthopaedic biomaterials. He also has made significant contributions to the pre-clinical development of many drugs to treat arthritis, including Enbrel, Remicade, Kineret, and Lodine, and the evaluation of the biocompatibility of composites and materials used for viscosupplementation. Dr. Wooley is a professor of biology at Wichita State University.
