Specialist in Education in School Psychology

This program leads to the Specialist in Education (EdS) degree in school psychology. School psychologists collaborate with educators and families to help ensure the academic, social, behavioral, and emotional progress of children and youth in schools.

The School Psychology Program at Wichita State University has full program approval from the National Association of School Psychologists.  Graduates who attain the requisite score on the PRAXIS examination are eligible to become Nationally Certified School Psychologists.

Overview

As school practitioners, school psychologists share their consultation, assessment, intervention, and research expertise with youth, families, and educators to promote healthy cognitive, social, and emotional development.

The goal of the school psychology program is to prepare school psychologists who are able to provide psychoeducational services to students and their families as part of a school-based educational team. Graduates of the school psychology program are prepared to apply their special knowledge and skills in collaborative consultation with parents, teachers, special services personnel, and administrators, and in direct service to students.

Additionally, program faculty provide ongoing professional development to area school psychologists.

 
Admission Requirements

Students who have completed a master's degree in educational psychology, counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a directly related area may apply for admission to the EdS degree program in school psychology.  To be considered for admission, students must apply to the Graduate School and provide:

• Graduate degree transcripts
• Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) for the last 60 hours
• GRE Verbal and Quantitative scores
• GRE Writing Assessment score (unless applicant completed a master's thesis)
• The names, addresses, and phone numbers of three persons to provide references
• A statement of professional goals
• A resume
• A statement of research interests
