What is SMTI?

The Science & Mathematics Teacher Imperative (SMTI) is a commitment from university leaders in the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (A-P-L-U) to produce quality science and mathematics teachers in K-12 schools.

Wichita State University has joined with over 100 A-P-L-U institutions pledging to increase and improve science and mathematics teacher education.

Preparing Science and Math Teachers at WSU

The Wichita State University College of Education’s SMTI Goal is to produce 55 total mathematics or science teachers for the 2014 school year, which is an increase by 112% in five years.

To reach the goal of higher quality and quantity in science and math teaching, WSU has taken action in three interlinking endeavors—Recruitment, Education, Retention.
