2009

  • Mary Myers was one of two recipients of the President's Award at the 22nd Annual Sport and Recreation Law Association in San Antonio, TX March 4-7, 2009. Ms. Myers has served as the assistant to the Executive Director since 2001. In this capacity, she monitors renewals of memberships and subscriptions, conference registrations, and various other duties.
  • Congratulations to Laura Biery and Ryosho Matsumoto, recipients of Sport Management graduate fellowships this spring. Selection criteria included academic record, contribution to program diversity, extracurricular activity, professional experience and community service. Award selections were made by the Sport Management Program Committee.
  • Congratulations to four students who are being awarded fellowships by the Sport Management Alumni Association this spring. Graduate students Laura Biery, Candace Friedrich and Micah Friedrich and undergraduate Scott Riesterer were selected for the honor by SMAA’s Executive Committee.
  • The Sport Management Alumni Association’s 2009 membership drive will begin early in the spring semester. Membership packages range from $25 to $500, and the organization’s revenue is primarily devoted to fellowship support for students. SMAA will send letters of invitation to all program alumni for whom we have current records. Alumni who do not receive letters can request information by contacting Mary Myers at mary.myers@wichita.edu or 316-978-5445.

2008

  • Lori Miller, Clay Stoldt, Jeff Noble and Mark Vermillion offered a presentation titled "The Design and Implementation of Undergraduate and Graduate Sport Management Assessment Systems: A Worthy (yet painful) Process" at the North American Society for Sport Management Conference May 31 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
  • Clay Stoldt, Mark Vermillion and Lori Miller co-authored a presentation titled "Changing Long-Standing Traditions" at the College Sports Information Directors of America Workshop July 1 in San Diego.
  • Martin Perline and Clay Stoldt co-authored an article titled "Competitive Balance and Conference Realignment: The Case of Big 12 Football" in the spring issue of The Sport Journal.
  • Dr. Lori Miller, professor of sport management, was honored by the Texas A&M University-Commerce Alumni Association April 23 when she was named an alumni ambassador for the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Sports Studies.
  • Dr. Clay Stoldt, Dr. Lori Miller and Dr. Jeff Noble were a co-authors on “Public Relations Evaluation in Sport: Views from the Field,” presented May 30 at the North American Society for Sport Management Conference in Toronto.
  • Dr. Mark Vermillion, assistant professor of sport management, and Mary Myers, administrative specialist in sport management, received WSU College of Education honors in April for their excellent work.Dr. Vermillion received the college’s Research Award. Mrs. Myers received the college’s Non-Instructional Staff Award for the second time during her tenure at WSU.
