Sport Management
Graduate Program


Wichita State's sport management degree provides students with a quality curriculum including courses such as management in sport, sport marketing, and sport law. Students pursuing the Master of Education in Sport Management degree gain academic and practical preparation for careers in the management of sport entertainment, sport participation and sporting goods organizations. Graduates of this program work in a variety of sport settings including intercollegiate athletics, major league and minor league professional sports, fitness, recreation, and specialized sport businesses.


WSU's Master of Education in Sport Management has received specialized accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) located in Reston, Virginia.

Program Outline

Most students complete the sport management graduate course in two to three years. While in the graduate sport management program, students will complete an internship in one of a variety of sport settings. Graduates of this program are employed in a wide variety of settings, including intercollegiate sports, minor and major league professional sports, park and recreation departments, and in the health club/fitness industry.

There is currently only one sport management class offered online -- SMGT 711 Structuring and Scheduling Sport Tournaments. However, most instructors in the program utilize Internet and other technologies to enhance student learning environments. These instructors have placed syllabi, notes, Powerpoint presentations, grade information, and other class materials on Blackboard for student use. Admission Considerations

The MEd-Sport Management program has reached capacity for 2015-16. Applications for 2016-17 are now being accepted.

  • 60-hour grade point average of 2.750 or better
  • Results from the Graduate Record Exam (if submitted by applicant)
  • Candidate's letter of application
  • Candidate's resume
  • Three reference reports

Comprehensive Exam Requirement

Graduate sport management students are required to successfully complete a written comprehensive examination during the semester they intend to graduate.
