APPLICATION FOR DEGREE
Students must submit their application for degree (AFD) online prior to graduation. This can be submitted up to two semesters prior to a student’s graduation date. In order to be included in the commencement program students must submit their AFD prior to October 1st for fall graduation and March 1st for spring graduation. The online application for degree can be found by logging into your myWSU, going to the myClasses tab, and clicking on the “Application for Degree” link in the Graduation Links box, which is located on the right hand side of the page.
Students who wish to participate in commencement must submit their RSVP for the ceremony prior to 5:00 pm on May 6 for the 2016 spring ceremonies. The online RSVP system can be found by logging into your myWSU, going to the myClasses tab, and clicking on the “Commencement Registration” link in the Graduation Links box, which is located on the right hand side of the page. Online reservations can be submitted starting on March 1st.
No rehearsal will be conducted for Commencement. To ensure a graduate's place in the processional, participants should arrive no less than one hour before the exercise begins. This will allow graduates time to check in and find a place in line for the processional.
Charles Koch Arena is handicap accessible and has reserved parking and seating for individuals with special needs. Graduates should inform their college office of any special needs they have so proper arrangements can be made for them to cross the stage and participate in the processional and recessional. If you have questions or concerns you can contact the Commencement Office at 316-978-3258 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
CAP AND GOWN INFORMATION
Graduates can purchase their cap and gown at the WSU University Bookstore prior to the commencement ceremony. Doctoral or Specialist candidates who wish to purchase their regalia must do so prior to March 11th, or March 23rd if they wish to rent. Undergraduate and Master’s candidates should purchase their cap and gown prior to May 6th. However, to ensure proper sizes and colors are available, we recommend that degree candidates begin purchasing their regalia during the middle of the semester. Bookstore personnel will be available to assist students in selecting the appropriate colored tassel and hood. Additional information regarding cap and gown purchase can be found on the WSU bookstore website.
A student may wear a maximum of 3 adornments such as honor cords and stohls during the ceremony. It is preferred that these adornments represent academic achievement. Requests from organizations for permission to provide cords, stoles, or other items to be worn with the cap and gown at commencement should be directed to Jody Hall (email@example.com). Only those submitted by academic units or academic honor societies will be considered. Cords and stoles must be purchased from the University Bookstore.
You will receive a scroll as you walk across the stage. The scroll contains information on when and how you can receive your official diploma. Once you have completed all your requirements, your college has verified your degree and all your financial obligations to the University are fulfilled, you will be issued a diploma. The diploma is usually issued six to eight weeks after graduation but please check the scroll you receive at the ceremony or contact the Registrar's Office for exact dates. Students who want their diplomas mailed to them may fill out a card in the Registrar's Office.
