GENERAL INFORMATION

The Tenth International Conference on Hyperons, Charm and Beauty Hadrons will be hosted by Wichita State University at the Hyatt Hotel conference center in Wichita, Kansas, from 23 July to 28 July 2012. This conference continues the BEACH series, which began with a meeting in Strasbourg in 1995. The series now offers a biennial opportunity for both theorists and experimentalists from the high-energy physics community to discuss all aspects of hyperon and heavy-flavor physics. The conferences in 2008 and 2010 attracted more than 100 participants.

The 2012 conference will take place in the Hyatt Hotel directly on the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita within walking distance of many restaurants, museums, and other destinations. Wichita is a metropolitan city with a rich history in American Indian culture. Wichita was an important cattle trading hub connecting cattle trails from the South and West to early railroads. With the presence of most major aircraft companies, Wichita is also known as the Air Capital of the World. The conference will begin with a reception on the evening of Monday 23 July and end with a summary talk at the conclusion of the morning session on Saturday 28 July. No sessions are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon July 25.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The following topics exemplify the broad scope of the conference:

  • CP violation in K and B-meson decays
  • Heavy quark physics
  • Heavy quarkonium production and decay
  • Light meson production and neutrino flux
  • Heavy Quark Effective Theory
  • Lattice QCD and non-relativistic QCD
  • Precise electroweak measurements
  • Hyperon physics
  • Hadronic-neutrino physics
  • Top-quark physics
  • New experimental facilities and projects

The organizers are aiming at a stimulating mix of presentations on both experimental and theoretical particle physics. Presentations on preparation for upcoming experiments will share the podium with recent results. The contributions will include reports from the various experimental projects that relate to the theme of the conference. Continuing the tradition of the BEACH series, all of the sessions will be plenary sessions. The program will accommodate review talks of twenty to thirty minutes and short contributions requiring ten to fifteen minutes. Special session are arranged for the strange quark and mixing angle in memory of Nicola Cabibbo and on the b-quark dedicated to the early work of Leon Lederman.

Presentations will generally fit into one of the following categories:
Recent experimental results, recent theoretical work, comparison of theoretical expectations with
experimental results, or progress reports on new experiments.

To complement the diversity of topics the organizers encourage diversity among the participants in regard both to geography and to professional status. The conference is intended to be a productive experience for graduate students and senior researchers alike.

REGISTRATION

The registration fee will be $400 USD for participants who register no later than 23 June 2012. Thereafter the fee will be $450 USD. The registration fee covers the welcome reception, the sessions, coffee breaks, the banquet, and the proceedings.  Accompanying person tickets for the conference dinner are also available. Registration and payment with credit cards is now available.

OPTIONAL EVENING ACTIVITY

Conference orgnaziers have planned an optional evening activity: An Evening at Cowtown.  We will have bus transportation to our Cowtown Visitor's center where attendees will enjoy a Western Barbecue Meal followed by entertainment about the origin of the cowboy (America's folk hero) in the post-Civil War trail drives from Texas to Kansas which will include authentic folksongs,  poems, and tales that the cowboys created.  Afterwards we will stop by our Keeper of the Plains Indian Statue for a brief tour of Native American history.  Cost for this optional activity is $40 USD per person.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The deadline for abstract submission is 23 June 2012. Abstract submission is available now by clicking here.

PROCEEDINGS

Contributions to this conference will be peer-reviewed and published in a timely fashion in Nuclear Physics B Proceedings Supplements. Each participant will receive a bound copy of the proceedings at no cost beyond the registration fee.

BANQUET

Participants and accompanying persons (at additional cost) may enjoy the conference banquet on the
evening of Thursday 26 July.

DEVELOPING NATIONS PARTICIPANTS

Traditionally the organizers of the BEACH conferences have absorbed a portion of the local expenses
for a limited number of participants from developing nations. As many as four such fellowships may be awarded for the 2012 conference. They may include a waiver of the registration fee and a subsidy for accommodations. Applications should be directed to the Chair of the organizing committee and must include a cover letter, an abstract, and a letter from the director of the applicant's institution. The letter must stipulate that the home institution will fully underwrite the cost of round-trip transportation to
Wichita, Kansas, meals, and any other necessary expenses not covered by the fellowship. Applications should be emailed to holger.meyer@wichita.edu
