Course Description

This course will provide students with a technical knowledge of composite manufacturing to a level that allows them to better and more proactively identify deficiencies on the factory floor that have safety implications.  This course was developed by Wichita State University in collaboration with key industry experts and observation by the Federal Aviation Administration. Students will study advanced topics during an on-line, interactive learning experience via Blackboard. Teaching methodology includes online discussions facilitated by subject matter experts, relevant documentation, and audio/visual aids. Depending on prior knowledge and experience, students will spend approximately eight hours per week reviewing materials, participating in online discussions, and testing their knowledge. Depending on the students skill set and back ground the time investment may fluctuate a bit.  The course will conclude with a 2-day hands-on laboratory.

Course Objectives

  • Students will develop knowledge in composite materials, current manufacturing processes and related structural details for certified aircraft products. 
  • Students will understand regulatory requirements and related safety issues considered in the certification of manufacturing processes for composite structures.

Who Should Attend?

  • MIO/MIDO inspectors participating in the certification of composite structures. 
    FAA designees, international civil aviation authorities and engineers responsible for quality system development, approval and oversight of manufacturing processes for composite structures.

  • Tool prep, cutting, layup and bagging

Parking: No parking permit is needed.

Registration Fee:      

The cost to participants is $2,000 each and covers both the online and on-site training.  Registration is limited to 22 individuals and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.  Registration includes course materials, breakfast, lunch and all breaks at the onsite training.  You may register and pay on-line on our website.   Space is limited so register quickly to reserve your spot.  If the class fills prior to your registering you will be placed on a waiting list for possible future classes. 

Cancellations and Refunds: 

All cancellations must be made in writing.  A 15% administrative fee will be assessed on all cancellations (this includes purchase orders).  There will be no refunds after June 27, 2016. WSU reserves the right to cancel the program due to lack of enrollment.  In that event, WSU will refund any pre-paid course fees but will not be responsible for any incidental or consequential damages.
