Call for Abstracts for Oral and Poster Presentations


The Kansas Public Health Association is now accepting abstracts for the 73rd annual KPHA conference to be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Wichita, Kansas, September 20 – 21, 2016. This year’s theme is:

Advocating for the Health of All Kansans

Submission Deadline:  Abstracts are to be submitted no later than noon, Friday, March 4, 2016.       No exceptions will be made for late submissions.

Selection Criteria - All submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
• Overall quality
• Relevance to the public health profession
• Timeliness of topic
• Audience appeal
• Well-defined focus of presentation
• Application of the material
• Professional background and speaking experience of the presenter(s)

Advocacy Strand: With the theme of this year’s conference being “Advocating for the Health of All Kansans”, the program will feature a strand focused on health advocacy. If this is an area of interest, experience, and expertise, consider submitting an abstract with an advocacy focus.

Abstract Notification:  All presenters will be notified via email of abstract status on Friday, April 8.  If accepted for presentation, you are giving permission for this abstract to be printed in conference materials.

Presenters Registration and Membership to KPHA:  You do not need to be a KPHA member to submit an abstract.  If your abstract is selected as an oral or poster presentation, the presenting author(s) MUST become a KPHA member and register for the conference.  A special one-day registration option will be available for presenters who want to attend the conference only on the day they present.

Session presenters are NOT reimbursed for registration or expenses to attend the conference.

Session Types/Format:  You will be asked to choose a presentation style:  Oral or Poster.  The conference planning committee however has the final decision on the format for speaker presentations (breakout session/oral or poster presentation).

1. Oral presentations are given as part of 60-minute breakout sessions.
2. Poster presentations occur in one 45-minute poster session on the morning of Wednesday, September 21, 2016. 

Note:  There will be Internet available for presentations.

Abstract Requirements:  Abstracts for presentations or posters must be less than 250 words.  Submissions may be related to the conference theme “Advocating for the Health of All Kansans” or to other public health related topics.
